IPBA Resignation
Date: May 04, 2011 04:09PM
Hi all,
I just want to let people know that I have resigned from the
committee of the Irish Pocket Billiards Association.

I have been extremely unhappy with how the IPBA is being run for a few months now, in particular a lack of communication between the chairman and the
committee, an absence of transparency and a complete lack of respect for
committee members. I decided to stay on the committee in the hope that there
would be a change after the European Championships, but sadly that
hasn't happened and things are as bad as ever.

Even though I won a medal at the recent European Championships, it was
achieved under less than ideal circumstances. In the days leading up to
Germany, the IPBA was in a financial mess, and even the night before
flying out, I was asked for money and told I wouldn't be
allowed play otherwise. It was the worst organisation (and atmosphere) of any Irish team that I have experienced.

The problem seems to be rest with a single person in the IPBA, and I'm
sure that if that problem is solved, the IPBA will grow and become the
successful governing body that everyone wishes it to be.
Regards
Fred.

Fred,

I'm sorry to see you leave but I agree with everything you've said. As you know I resigned from the committee back in February, for much the same reasons. After the European Qualifiers I was very concerned about the lack of transparency in the IPBA. There was real difficultly in getting straight answers. I also had concerns about serious decisions being made without committee approval.

Its a pity that things didn't change after Germany, as many had hoped. But I still think if there is a change at the top, the IPBA will get back on track.

Gareth.
