Last weekend the TF Royal Hotel in Castlebar played host to one of the biggest international sports festivals ever to take place in one venue in the west of Ireland. The prestigious event included a world professional PDC 20,000 euros datrs tournament, a celebrity poker challenge and a 2,000 euros west of Ireland pool championships all under one roof.

11 times world champion Phil "The Power Taylor", took the darts tournament title for the 2nd year running with a 7-1 victory over Dennis Ovens from Stevenage, England in the final. Mayo man, Fintan Mc Kenna from Balla, won the individual pool competition defeating the former Irish champion John Mc Mahon (Cavan) in a trilling final, with John Magee (Mayo) & Rod Clifford (Meath) reaching the semi-finals.

The celebrity poker challenge was won by Darren Webster a professional darts player who is ranked number 24 in the worlds PDC rankings.

In its 5th successful year running, the event has gone from strength to strength. It's an exciting sporting weekend for spectors and competitors alike, where local players have the rare opportunity to challenge some of the worlds sporting greats. The organisers would like to thank all the people who helped out and supported the festival in any way, and are already putting plans together for next years event after this years event proved a major success.

NOTE: Photo's from the event can be viewed through the TF Royal Hotel website at www.royaltheatre.ie
